Contour & Jawline

Contour is how sharp the lower face and midface read in a scan. It is one of the most common looksmaxing focus areas — and one of the easiest to track honestly with before and after scans.

Shown in the app as Contour (Jawline)

The most gamed number on the internet

Jawline content online is overwhelmingly angles. Tilt the chin down and back, extend the neck, shoot from slightly above, and almost any jaw sharpens. None of that is measurement, and none of it survives a second scan taken honestly. GlowUp scores contour from an eye-level photograph specifically so the number is comparable to your own previous scans rather than to your best angle.

What genuinely changes it

Contour is the dimension most tied to things outside your face. Body composition dominates: submental fat sits directly over the area being scored, so overall fat loss shows up here before it shows up almost anywhere else. Water retention moves it week to week, which is why a scan the morning after a salty dinner and a bad night reads softer. Posture matters more than people expect — a forward head position compresses the space under the jaw. And grooming changes the read without changing anything underneath: beard shaping and sideburn lines redraw the border the eye follows.

How to track it without lying to yourself

Pick one scan setup and keep it: eye level, camera at arm’s length, same light, same time of day, ideally morning before fluid shifts. Then leave it alone for a few weeks. Contour moves on a body-composition timescale, not a daily one, so a fortnightly rescan produces a trend line and a daily rescan produces noise. The app’s scan cooldown exists to make the lazy path the correct one.

Honest limits

What this score will not tell you

  • A downward camera angle flatters the jaw and invalidates comparison with earlier scans.
  • It cannot separate bone from soft tissue — it scores what the photo shows.
  • Chewing gum and "jaw training" devices act on muscle that contributes very little to the visible line.

How to improve it

  1. 01

Slight downward camera angle softens the jaw; use eye-level selfies for honest baselines.

  2. 02

Body composition and sodium or water retention move contour scores week to week.

  3. 03

Grooming (beard shape, sideburns) changes perceived contour without changing bone.

Contour & Jawline questions

Does mewing improve the contour score?

There is no good evidence that tongue posture reshapes an adult jaw. Posture and body composition are the levers that actually show up in rescans, and both are measurable over weeks.

Why is my jawline score worse in the evening?

Fluid distribution. Most people read softer later in the day and after salty food or poor sleep. Scan at the same time of day and the effect stops polluting your trend.
