Green Tea Extract

A well-tolerated antioxidant botanical with anti-inflammatory properties. A good supporting ingredient, not a headline one.

INCI: Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract · Also known as EGCG, Polyphenols

What it does

Green tea extract supplies polyphenols, principally EGCG, with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. In skincare it shows up in calming formulas and in morning antioxidant blends alongside vitamin C.

It is gentle enough for reactive skin and there is little downside to its presence. As with all botanicals, the amount and quality of extract varies wildly and is rarely disclosed.

Think of it as a useful passenger in a good formula rather than a reason to buy one.

Green Tea Extract questions

Is green tea good for acne-prone skin?

Its anti-inflammatory properties make it a sensible supporting ingredient, but it will not replace a proper acne active such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or a retinoid.
