What mewing claims — and what photos prove
Mewing advocates describe tongue posture resting on the palate with lips sealed and teeth lightly together, sometimes with posture work attached. Stories online credit it with sharper jaws and better midfaces. In adults, meaningful skeletal change from posture alone is limited and slow if it occurs; soft-tissue appearance, body fat, water, and camera angle explain most week-to-week “wins.” Treat mewing as a low-cost habit experiment, not as orthodontics-in-your-bedroom.
Which GlowUp scores relate
Contour / Jawline is the dimension most people hope mewing will move. Facial Structure is slower context — do not expect it to chase your tongue posture. Symmetry can wiggle with expression and camera tilt; do not read it as mewing feedback. Skin Quality will not care about tongue posture at all, but it will dominate how sharp a jaw looks in real photos, so ignoring skin while obsessing over mewing is a common failure mode.
A protocol that does not lie to you
Baseline scan before you start a mewing block. Write down concurrent changes — diet, training, sleep, beard — so you do not attribute everything to one habit. Rescan every three to four weeks with identical light, angle, and grooming state. Never scan the morning after heavy salt or alcohol if you are trying to read contour. Use the progress chart’s slope across multiple points. If Contour rises while weight drops, leanness is the headline even if you mewed diligently.
When to prioritise something else
If your first GlowUp result ranks Skin Quality HIGH, fix that before building an identity around mewing. If Contour is already close to Structure, further jaw obsession has diminishing returns relative to skin and grooming. Pain, bite problems, or jaw joint issues are clinical — see a professional rather than pushing through viral routines. GlowUp measures presentation; it does not diagnose TMJ or prescribe orthotropics.
